I had a 10-minute phone chat with Jason, the producer guy from Channel 4 this evening (and no, I'm not stalking him, he actually phoned me thank you very much). I sent him a brand new
pilot episode of the kind of videos that I make and he said he really liked it and they were all suitably amused when he played it to everyone in the office. Jason liked it so much that he was "inspired" to make yet another proposal to me. He wants me to use my vast array of noises that I can make with my body and turn them into a grand-scale musical composition complete with accompanying video footage for yet another series that he is making for Channel 4. So... I think that means I'm now pencilled in to be part of 2 separate serieseses. So that's rather exciting I'd say.
I'm looking forward to the challenge, I think I can do a good job of it and make it humourous at the same time and I'll leave the TV company begging for more of Yonner. Before you know it they'll be offering me my own series or whatever. That would be so hilarious if they did. It's highly unlikely because I'm not sure that my content could carry to a series or whatever but then I always was my own worst critic... and it's fun to dream.
There was also talk of getting paid and whatnot. Anything that pays the mortgage this month is fine by me. I can seriously see this leading to other things. TV is the greatest showcase on earth so to get several 2 minutes slots on a national TV channel completely devoted to me and my creative talents is a huge window of opportunity. On the one hand I feel very lucky but on the other hand the amount of times that I end up on TV or on the front page of national papers or just having crazy things happen to me without even trying to make any of them happen, it's like all these things are gradually preparing me for something much bigger. I've definately developed an appetite for TV fame too. It's exhilerating to do a live global TV interview and pull it off nicely. It's fun to have the Trevor McDonald camera crew come round to your house for an interview, it's cool to have a GMTV producer on the phone begging you to do a series of live interviews the following day and its SOOOOO much fun travelling in the back of taxi whilst doing an interview live on air, down my mobile phone to the BBC London Live radio station. It was also fun to have Granada TV come to my piano shop and film me playing a full 4 minute long piano piece with loads of fancy lighting and camera "drive bys" etc. I did that one for free, I guess I should've charged really. It was also fun to get a nice closeup shot of my face on TV when Oldham played Man Utd at Wembley back in the 1990s.
And it's kinda nice to receive phonecalls from Sky TV asking if they can show some of my old video footage at a rate of £500 per minute. FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS PER MINUTE! How can that kind of thing NOT be addictive?
Well it's almost 1.30am and I've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow. So I'm gonna leave it there.... and no, you can't have my autograph!
