Pop Artists' Lyrics are very Intimate

I've been paying attention to song lyrics lately. It seems like everywhere you hear music (ASDA, Radio 1, TV) people are singing songs about the various trials, tribulations and celebrations associated with love. You might think that when an artist gets famous he might start to make his lyrics more obscure so that we can't know to much about his personal life or whatever. But I'm finding that artists are often laying their most intimate details of their life right there on the table in black and white. Here's a fairly poor example of what I mean - this song was on in the pub so that's why I've remembered it:

Madness - House of Fun: (read this as if it were just normal dialogue instead of song lyrics)
I never thought I'd miss you half as much as I do. And I never thought I'd feel this way, the way I feel about you. As soon as I wake up every night [and] every day I know that it's you I need to take the blues away.

Those are some pretty simple lyrics but the message is powerful. Anyway, yeah, I take comfort in the fact that it seems like everyone goes through heartache at some point and I am learning that it's good to share one's troubles with loved ones and also that turning thoughts into songs or poetry could also be a positive thing to do with those thoughts.
