I watched a 1 hour programme last night which charted the paths of successive leaders of the tory and labour parties since WWII. From what I could gather, the over-riding factor that affected whether a leader would win or lose a general election came down to PR - Public Relations.



If you didn't come across well on TV, if you didn't create a "brand" for what you represent (see "new labour" and Margaret Thatcher for 2 successful political brands) and if you couldn't use the media to "connect" with the electorate then you basically had no chance of success.

So then I got thinking that it is the exact same thing with commerce. Branding and connecting with customers are 2 immeasurably important factors in determining the success or failure of a product.

And THEN I got to thinking that PR can even operate on a personal & social level so that those of us who are able to create a clear identity for ourselves amongst our peers and those of us who are able to connect with our peers in a socially successful way will be the most successful people in terms of forming numerous strong & lasting friendships.

So I just wanted to jot that revelation down before I forgot about it. I think I can actually put it to good use to help me earn a living.
