Here is why burglary is much worse than just having to make an occasional insurance claim:
mm:ss
00:20 – operate house alarm (x4 per day)
00:10 – unlock back door to take rubbish out & lock up again
00:30 – hunt around house for car/house keys (2x per day)
00:10 – lock front door behind you (2x per day)
00:10 – fiddle with keys and open car door (6x per day)
00:05 – fiddle with car key to get it into ignition (3x per day?)
00:10 – access work security code on front door (3x per day?)
00:10 – fiddle with keys to open locker at work (2x per day)
00:20 – enter pin code when paying with card at shop 2x per day)
00:10 – fiddle with keys to get in house (2x per day)
00:10 – fiddle with window keys to open/close windows (2x per day)
00:30 – fiddle with gate/garage locks if storing bike/car (2x per day)
OK, I could find lots more stuff but that will do I think. The grand total of those security-related actions is as follows:
7 mins and 15 secs per day
50 mins and 45 secs per week
3 hours and 20 mins per month
40 hours and 35 mins per year
So there you go. 40 hours per year is wasted due to the things we all HAVE to do because of the presence of thieves. So that’s a full working day that we waste every year just because someone was never taught not to take what doesn’t belong to them. This has bugged for about 5 years now but this is my first blog post that relates to the subject. Does theft-related timewasting bother anybody else?
